Privacy Policy

In short: your garden is yours. We never sell your data, and we only share it with the trusted services needed to run GrowIQ.

1. Who we are

GrowIQ is a product of SEVRA Group Limited, a company registered in England & Wales (Co. No. 16573490), trading as GrowIQ UK ("GrowIQ", "we", "us"). We are the data controller for the personal data described here. For any privacy question or to exercise your rights, contact hello@growiq.co.uk.

2. The information we collect

CategoryExamples
AccountEmail, password (stored hashed by our auth provider), display name.
Profile you provideOptional: age range, sex, region, gardening interests, goals and experience level.
Your garden contentPlants, spaces, photos you upload, harvests, readings, notes, journal entries, tasks and problems.
Approximate locationUsed for local weather and frost/heat alerts. You can decline it.
AI interactionsPhotos and questions you submit to AI features, and the responses generated.
Voice inputWhen you use voice logging or conversation mode, your device's microphone is used to capture what you say. Speech is converted to text by your browser or device (on Android, by Google's speech service; on other platforms, by the built-in system). We do not receive, store or transmit the audio itself — only the resulting text, which is then handled exactly like something you typed. You can decline microphone access.

3. How we use it, and our lawful bases

4. AI processing

When you use an AI feature, the relevant content (for example a plant photo, your question and a summary of your garden data) is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to generate a response. If you speak to GrowSense using voice, your words are first turned into text by your device (see the Voice input row above — we never receive the audio), and that text is then sent to Anthropic just like a typed question. We instruct our providers not to train their models on your content. AI outputs are automated and may be inaccurate — please read the safety note in our Terms before relying on plant identification, edibility or toxicity information.

5. Who we share data with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with service providers who help us run GrowIQ, under contracts requiring them to protect it:

We may also disclose data where required by law or to protect our rights, users or the public. If you join a family team or a nursery team, members of that team can see the shared garden or nursery data.

5a. Business accounts: who is responsible for what

Most of the time we decide how your data is used, which makes us the data controller. But when a business uses GrowIQ to manage other people, that changes:

If you are a worker or member of staff and you want to access, correct or delete your records, please ask the farm or business you work for first — they control that data. You can also contact us and we'll help direct your request.

If you are a business using these features: you are responsible for telling your staff what you collect and why, for having a lawful basis to do it, and for handling their data-protection rights. Time and location records about staff are a form of monitoring, and the ICO expects employers to be transparent about it, to be able to justify it, and in higher-risk cases to carry out a Data Protection Impact Assessment. Our Data Processing Agreement sets out what each of us is responsible for — it forms part of the Terms and applies automatically the moment you record another person's details.

5b. Marketing & our interest list

If you register your interest, join a waiting list or apply to the beta, we'll use your name and email to send you updates about GrowIQ and the product you told us you're interested in. Our lawful basis is your consent, which you give by submitting the form.

You can withdraw consent at any time — every marketing email includes an unsubscribe link, or you can email hello@growiq.co.uk and we'll remove you. We keep a record that you unsubscribed so we don't contact you again by mistake. We don't sell your details to anyone, and we don't send marketing on behalf of third parties.

6. International transfers

Some providers (including our AI provider) process data outside the UK/EEA. Where they do, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement/Addendum or an adequacy decision, so your data receives equivalent protection.

7. How long we keep it

Farm and business records. Some records you keep in GrowIQ — such as spray and input records, livestock movements, and sales or till records — may be subject to statutory retention periods that apply to you as a farmer or business, and can be longer than you'd keep an app account. Deleting your GrowIQ account deletes your data from our systems and will not preserve those records for you. If you rely on GrowIQ for compliance record-keeping, export your records before you delete anything — the Records and Reports tools produce PDF and CSV exports for this purpose. Keeping and producing statutory records remains your legal responsibility, not ours.

We keep your data while your account is active. If you delete content or your account, we remove the associated personal data from our live systems within [RETENTION PERIOD — e.g. 30 days], except limited records we must keep for legal, accounting or security reasons. Backups cycle out on a rolling basis.

8. Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can access, correct, delete or port your data, restrict or object to certain processing, and withdraw consent. Email hello@growiq.co.uk to exercise any of these. You may also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk — though we'd appreciate the chance to help first.

US residents. If you're a California resident, the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA) gives you similar rights — to know what personal information we hold, to delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of its "sale" or "sharing" (we don't sell personal information, and don't share it for cross-context behavioural advertising). Other US states have comparable laws that we'll honour on the same basis. Email hello@growiq.co.uk to exercise any of these — we won't discriminate against you for doing so.

Australian residents. We handle your personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988. You have the same rights described above — to access, correct or delete your data — and can also make a complaint to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au if you're not satisfied with how we've handled a concern, though we'd appreciate the chance to help first.

9. Children

GrowIQ is intended for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. If you are under 18, please use GrowIQ with the involvement of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 without parental consent and will delete such data if we become aware of it.

10. Storage on your device

GrowIQ stores data on your device (such as an offline cache and your preferences) so the app is fast and works offline. This is essential to how the app functions, not third-party ad tracking. GrowIQ products do not show third-party ads.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures including encryption in transit, authenticated access, row-level database security and server-side enforcement. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect your data and will notify you and the ICO of any breach as required by law.

12. Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. We'll change the "last updated" date and, for significant changes, notify you in the app or by email.
